Milijana Babić “Looking for work” at ŠKUC Gallery, Ljubljana

For the 19th International Festival of Contemporary Arts  – City of Women, Milijana Babić presented a show that speaks of social margins and shares information and experiences otherwise untouched in public debates.

The artist exposed herself as manpower by changing jobs for a year and six months. She started her project by placing the ad Visual artist urgently looking for any kind of work, which mostly attracted perverted and suspicious offers where gender and age were the main requirements for getting a job. She then secretly recorded all her different work experiences (promoting irons, selling roses, cleaning offices, etc) that were mostly underpaid and highly exploitative.

Precarity makes us all equal, visual artists like immigrants, elderly people, women or young people are all sharing similar experiences.
