Damiano Quaranta. A tribute to Alberto Burri
Rome’s new-kid-on-the-block Damiano Quaranta pays homage to Alberto Burri with a solo exhibition at Galleria Acquario, one of the most important places in Rome for national and international artists. While exploring the creative world built up in Burri’s conceptual art, Quaranta tries to explode his own vision into it.
In twelve works, the 26 year old artist passes through several materials to find his way to communicate the “Denial of Freedom”, center of his quest. Plasters, cements, burnt woods are mixed up with aluminium and treated like a living matter: as the master from which he keeps as inspiration, Quaranta deconstructs the metal by hammering and corroding it. «No artist is an only child and everyone always makes a call to another person, a mentor, a luminary, an artistic father», he sais and, to fix his mark on this original interpretation, he finishes each work with deep brushstrokes.
As Burri kept the distance from figurative painting by adding from time to time a new shape to his investigation into the world of conceptualism, Quaranta takes it all in one time. The next step is to jump off the denial of freedom into a new, unexplored dimension.
Damiano Quaranta. Omaggio a Alberto Burri is on view at Galleria Acquario, Via Giulia 178, Rome, from April 2 through April 16 2015.
