Shoot me! Orlando: Guerrilla art in response to violence

Art is the only place where Guerrilla is good. We see the proof in what happened in Italy one week after the Orlando massacre, where 49 people lost their life. The clubs in Florence, Milan and Rome became a stage for artist Gianluca Vassallo, who took close-ups of 24 couples kissing, and one picture of a feminine figure (a mother) looking at them.

“What happened in Florida touched the conscience of all. Once again, the blind violence of a man deeply wounded this community. As a human being and as an artist, I decided to activate an action of Guerrilla art that celebrates the joy of love without bonds of gender”, said Vassallo.

During the night of Saturday, June 18, a group of people hung big posters of the 24 couples kissing, along with the name of the project: “Shoot me! Orlando,” around Rome. At the same time, the shots were screened at a popular party in the capital, thus within the same context of the facts portrayed. The project is collective, disconnected from authorial intentions, and ready to be freely replicated. According to plans, it will happen again in the next weeks.
