White Mouths’ new collection at O’ Gallery, Milan
White Mouths is a new brand of transformable clothing, designed by young stylist Irene Silvestri, who presented her new capsule collection THINE HOARY MAJESTY S/S 2014 as a one-day performance at O’ not-for-profit gallery in Milan on June 25, 2013.
The collection shows a fashion workwear background, with clear, essential forms. An invitation to explore the possibilities of shapes, to vivisect the garment by using zippers, undoing buttons, and pulling strings. Materials and colors constantly evoke an Antarctic climate, as in an iceberg’s texture with its opaque, compact base and its shiny surfaced top. The color palette is also stratified: liquid black, cerulean, deep blue, and sky to polar white.
Duplicity, and therefore reversibility, gives the project multiple lives – to which we don’t bother to attribute a gender or dimension, since admiring their delicate and pragmatic power is simply enough.
In a world where the individual’s uniqueness is more and more asserted, and where fewer and fewer people are forced to wear a uniform, here’s a series of items that are capable of transformation, in order to cover different functionalities and to simplify one’s existence, even in its most lyrical and spiritual aspects.
Simplicity is a difficult target to be aiming to: subtracting and deconstructing, avoiding unnecessary elements are resources only to a limited number of pioneers; nonetheless, here the experiment seems to be more than accomplished.
