Ruth van Beek’s photographic collages at METRONOM

Accidents From The Greenhouse is the first solo show of Dutch artist Ruth van Beek in Italy. Curated by Selva Barni and Francesco Zanot at METRONOM gallery ‪in Modena‬, the exhibition collects a series of ‪‎photographs‬ and ‪collages‬ from the artist’s archive (or, as she calls it, «the Greenhouse»), in which she gathers the most diverse kinds of photographic images of different origins, such as family albums, slides, newspapers. Ruth van Beek uses images as objects; the resulting collages create visually plausible vistas on unreal scenarios, as well as disorienting point of views on everyday situations and familiar objects, ultimately playing on our belief in the truthfulness of the photographic image which, in spite of everything, still survives.
