A Walk Through The Art. MIA – Milan Image Art Fair 2014

MIA – Milan Image Art Fair’s fourth edition was held in Milan on May 23-25, 2014. Below you can find a photographic walk-through of the photography art fair, with exhibition views of a selection of the most interesting artwork and galleries on show.

MIA – Milan Image Art Fair had its first edition in 2011 from an idea by Fabio Castelli. The art fair is based on a unique element of innovation: one stand (and one catalog) for each of the exhibited artists.
MIA was created with the aim of highlighting the transverse role that photography has come to play between different languages in contemporary art.

MIA’s catalogue is conceived in an innovative way, merging technology and ecology needs. Starting from its 2014 edition, the MIA Fair Card + eBook replaced printed catalogs. Visitors were able to collect MIA Cards at the stands, and download each eBook catalog by scanning the QR code printed on each card (suitable for tablet, smartphone, PC, and Mac). Catalogs are still available for download at each of the artists’ pages on MIA’s website.

The 2014 edition featured a number of special projects, including:

The Dummy Award Fotobookfestival Kassel photobook exhibition, curated by 3/3.

Lavazza Art Cafe – a new curatorial project promoted by Lavazza. MIA’s official partner since its first edition, Lavazza is MIA 2014′s Main Sponsor. A dedicated space inside the art fair hosted solo exhibitions showcasing artwork by 6 photographers, presented by 3 international curators. Curator Antonio Arévalo (Chile) presented Ricardo Miguel Hernández and Graziano Folata; Luca Panaro (Italy) presented Guido Meschiari and Matilde Soligno; Francesco Zanot (Italy) presented Francesco Neri and The Cool Couple.

Parlando Con Voi exhibition, promoted by AFIP International and CNA Professioni. The installation featured videos of 30 Italian photographers talking about themselves and their work. The exhibition was meant to represent over a century of photographic history from the point of view of women photographers.

In 2014, the MIA Fair doubles: the first edition of MIA Fair Singapore will be held in the Southeast Asia capital from October 23 to 26.
