Artworks from Un luogo aperto
The square and all its meanings are the core of the exhibition “Un luogo aperto” (An open place). The title refers to an article in the Italian Constitution about the right to peaceful gathering, recalling the concept of collective dimension as well as the square as meeting place where to express the right to citizenship, and the idea of loss of identity and uniformity. A selection of artworks, from the 1970s to the present, shows different ways of projecting spaces, demonstrating or simply exchanging information and experiences. So in between these opposites – a real square made of stone and a metaphoric one made of human beings – there is an imaginary choir of polyphonic voices: the protest, the care of common goods, the monument, the exchange, and the meeting.
