SPRINT—Independent Publishers & Artist Books Salon 2017

SPRINT _\|/ , Milan’s Independent Publishers and Artists’ Books Salon – organized by non-profit art association O’ and curated by artist Dafne Boggeri – is at its fifth edition, and throughout the years, it has established its role as an important and awaited event in Milan’s art and publishing landscape.

Since its inception, SPRINT _\|/_ has been providing a peek into a hidden and fascinating world, that of (independent) art publishing. Artist editions aren’t just books, rather they take different shapes and formats. To find out what this wide horizon comprehends, you’ll have to take a walk in the art fair, as well as among the different venues and events that stud this yearly festival.

The walk into SPRINT _\|/_ will officially begin on Friday, November 25th at Agalma, with the opening of Ever And Ever, curated by BATT coop. On Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th, the art publishing salon begins in the not-for-profit space O’, which for the occasion will be packed with publishers, artists and other creatives – 61 international exhibitors from all over the world, to be exact – gathered here for the art book fair.

Among the highlights, Selador by Anna Franceschini, featuring Matilde Cerruti Quara and presented by Momentum Journal; Sacchetto, an artist’s multiple by Jonas Hermenjat; the dark room installation The Book Is On The Screen (II ed.), a loop of films, stills and motion images related to the independent publication curated by Valeria Raho. At c-r-u-d, 6 artists (Antonio Barletta, Sara Enrico, Cleo Fariselli, Sagg Napoli, Marco Pio Mucci and Francesco Pedraglio) were invited to produce — through Blade Banner — all-over printed images on silk fabric, that together with previous years’ artworks, will eventually be gathered in a nomadic exhibition.

SPRINT _\|/_ also involves a series of talks. On Saturday 25th, Fabrizio Vatieri will try and talk about how To dominate progress spiritually, through his book presentation that also includes a photograph and a performance. Gabriele Longega will present Wander About 90s Queer Culture — an overview of the American queer core scene from the 1990s. The last of Saturday’s  not-to-be-missed talks is Compost – Reflections on ecocentrism, presented by Kabul.

Also on Saturday, KO Club – a landmark for the LGBTQAIXYZ community in Milan – will present the fundraising party Reading After Dancing, with a DJ set by Petra / N.Y.E.M / Alieni, and the Remote reading by Rada Koželj.

On Sunday, at Aladino, you can watch Civic TV’s featured videos by emerging artists from the Bay Area and produced in San Francisco by Colpa Press. At Pijama, you will find again Colpa Press with their project The Riso Book series, 5 risograph-printed books that will be presented for the first time in Italy in a performative setting. The project, inspired by the format of Seth Siegelaub and Jack Wendler’s 1968 Xerox Book, is a geographic survey of contemporary artists with similar practices across several cities, whose works share the pages in this limited-edition publication.
