Working, working, working. I prefer the sound of the sea at Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève
The young artist Alfredo Aceto (1991, Turin, Italy), now in residence at the Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève, presents an exhibition entitled “Lavorare, lavorare, lavorare, preferisco il rumore del mare(1).”
Following Refaire le portrait, acte #1, this is the second installment of the exhibition: it would provide an ironic and friendly response to Valentin Carron, the Swiss artist who curated the recent exhibition showed at New York’s Swiss Institute, entitled “Work Hard(2).”
Aceto’s curatorial approach follows his artistic one, related to the themes of relationship, time and ecosystem.
Here the artist decided to appropriate the exhibition-as-medium as a nod to Carron, who in turn was recently sued for plagiarism after having appropriated the work “Aube” by Italian artist Francesco Marino di Teana.
The gesture of misappropriation would be an homage to Carron, staging the possible reproducibility of the ecosystem of an exhibition.
Thorugh this exhibition, Aceto is experimenting for the first time with the role of curator of an exhibition. He said to us that “Curating a show means having several different attitudes. It means to remember what our predecessors gave us. It means to select what it’s important for describing our times. It means to be aware of the past. And then, of course, it means to display the works in the space in order to give them a certain autonomy.”
Artwork on show by: Paul Limoujoux (1989, Clermont-Ferrand, France), Emanuele Marcuccio (1987, Italy), Ugo Nespolo (1941, Mossa, Italy) and Simon Paccaud (1985, Neuchâtel, France).
