Old and Curious Books from the Collection of William Dailey. The Good Luck Gallery, Los Angeles
Throughout the month of September the Good Luck Gallery reinvented itself as a bookstore, focusing on the collector as artist. Old and Curious Books from the collection of William Dailey displays a selection from the extensive collection of book dealer William Dailey, who gathered a unique archive of rare editions on the most disparate topics.
Entering this environment is like exploring a studio or a private library: the kind of place where fine books are meant to be, where they can be contemplated. The right place for the curious, and all those who worship peculiar forms of knowledge.
William Dailey was a Los Angeles bookseller for 30 years, during which period he published 70 catalogues of rare books and fine prints. The bookstore closed in 2007 and he now operates as a private dealer. Legend has it that he now lives in a Spa in Desert Hot Springs that he won in a poker game. In fact, a collection of rare books and ephemera on the Southern California desert is part of the exhibition that will be on display until October 11.

Thank you for writing about William Dailey’s book show at The Good Luck Gallery in Los Angeles. It’s been a treat to see people interacting with the books as opposed to “don’t touch the art” shows. Our gallery has a focus on self-taught art and since William didn’t go to school to learn how to collect rare books, he fits into the program nicely. Come back soon! Grazie Millie! xo Paige
