Kimsooja, To Breathe: Bottari
The notion of bottari (bundle) as a whole and totality as well as the concept of sewing have been core components of Kimsooja’s work for over three decades. Kimsooja has approached the Korean Pavilion’s architecture as a bottari, by covering the walls that separate the outside nature from the inner space in transluscent film. At the same time, the artist has created an anechoic chamber, a space of darkness that absorbs all audio waves. To Breathe: Blackout (2013) creates a soundless dark void of infinite reflection of the self: a black hole. Droste Effect Magazine invites you all to try this big mise en abyme (a visual puzzle similar to the Droste effect).
