How art can change the world: Think the Unthinkable at OltreDimore Gallery
The exhibition hosted by OltreDimore Gallery, “//:(TT)+U=Think The Unthinkable,” lies in between two different realms – not unlike its own curator: Raffaele Quattrone is indeed committed to the art world, but is also president of the Emilia Romagna Department of the National Sociology Association.
In fact, the formula he invented, //:(TT)+U, stands for a reality stretch, a sort of utopia where art has broken out of its own boundaries and has happily conquered the world. This concept is successfully carried out by the exhibited artists, whose works are mostly colorful, and playful: Filippo Berta unifies photography, video and performance in his “Instructions for Use,” a temporary alternative to the use of weapons, in which militaries play a game where they have to keep their rifles vertically balanced on their hand palms; Michele Giangrande’s neon work “Mike The Headless Chicken” refers to the popular story of the unlucky bird that in the 1940s lived for 18 months after his head had been mostly cut off; Roberta Grasso’s production, two giant marshmallows, are the result of a technique of her own, through which she’s able to build soft sculptures covered in classic Byzantium mosaic tiles; while Alessandro Moreschini covers canvases and spheric objects in elaborate patterns to imagine different, more sustainable fantasy worlds.
The sociological approach is also interestingly represented by a survey, with which Alessandro Moreschini and OltreDimore Gallery invite visitors to talk about their perception of the future.
