Augustine Kofie at White Walls, San Francisco

The prolific Augustine Kofie’s work is wide-ranging, including murals, assemblage, film, public art, and watercolor, but this show focuses on a series of acrylic and ink works produced earlier this year. These works concerning “sound structures and systems of reliability,” have both an architectural intention and a bit of the constructivist-like aesthetic for which he is known. In this well-edited showing, his urban, graphic, and street art background is evident, as is his facility for working in acrylic and ink media. This is Mr. Kofie’s third solo show with White Walls, a gallery with a strong focus on street-based art. This show also follows fresh on the heels of the group exhibition, “Graffuturism,” at the Galerie Openspace in Paris, which featured several pieces from this show.
